So I have decided to list a few tips for buying and using some of the appliances.

1) Switch to an energy saver unit.

2) Get a fridge that is just big enough to fit your needs.  It is tempting to get a larger model, but if you don’t fill it up, you will end up wasting energy.

 3) Make sure the model that you buy has power saving features and extra insulation.

4) When using the self-clean option on your stove, only use it when absolutely necessary.  This feature uses a lot of energy.

 5) Try and use a microwave whenever possible.  Microwaves do not use as much power as ovens, so using your microwave is a better choice.

6) No peeking!!!  Every time you open the over to look at your food, energy escapes and the oven cools off, and has to use more energy to heat back up.

7) Only run the dishwasher when it is completely full.

8) Pre-wash your dishes before you put them in the dishwasher to allow your dishwasher to work more efficiently.

 9) Only use the pre-wash or soak feature on heavily soiled dishes with baked on cheese.

10) When purchasing a new washer and dryer look at the front load models. These are the   new standard in efficiency. These will not only save you money on your power bill, but your water bill as well.

These are only a few helpful tips that are out there. If you go to your local power companies website they should be able to give you more tips that will affect your energy consumption based on their system.
